Our History
The idea for the TruPress first began to formulate when Dr. Justin Johnsen was an Ophthalmology resident at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. The importance of the amount of pressure in the eyeball, especially in the setting of glaucoma, was repeatedly impressed upon his mind during his training. Yet, he noted that at the close of most intraocular surgical procedures, especially cataract surgery, the intraocular pressure was not measured in an accurate and adequate manner. How most surgeons measured the eye pressure was with a technique called manual palpation, literally pushing on the eyeball/globe with either their finger, or a blunt cannula. As one can imagine this is not very accurate nor reproducible, and always bothered him. He also realized that there were multiple applications for this device in various other surgical specialties, that would improve the accuracy and outcomes of multiple different surgical scenarios. So he decided to do something about this conundrum. He started a journey committed to solving this problem. Initially, the technology was unavailable to accomplish the intended goal. But after meeting his business partner, a patent attorney, Mr Jordan M. Cox, the technology was finally developed. With the help of the superbly talented engineers at Octogen Medtech, the TruPress was born and developed. The first and only disposable pressure sensing syringe, the TruePress by Procerus Enterprises is a revolutionary device that has multiple applications across a variety of surgical and medical disciplines. This self-calibrating device conceived and developed by and for physicians is intuitive, accurate, and extremely reliable. It can reduce surgical and diagnostic time by 20% or more in some cases, while delivering the most accurate intraocular, intraspinal, or intrasynovial pressure measurements available! This leads to better patient outcomes, less complications, reduced anesthesia time, fewer malpractice cases, and increased productivity and cost savings. Contact us today to learn more!
